Every time I’ve caught the subway lately I’ve notice this ad for Showcase’s new series called “Haven”. Apparently it’s “the story of Audrey’s entry into this seemingly normal town..based on the Stephen King novella The Colorado Kid…” Sure, fine. I’m not a Stephen King fan but look at that typesetting!! I can’t stop looking at it.
It’s on 2 different axes, has completely conflicting character widths and works with sharp angles in 2 of the letters. Not only does it manage to pull this all off but the damn thing manages to look perfectly balanced (optically and physically on that weathervane), perfectly kerned (even though upon closer inspection the “N” is totally stretched…meh), and it even begins to tell a story about what the show is about. I can’t find any info as to who is responsible for this logo, but I’m a big fan. I wish I could say the same about the revamped Showcase logo….
